ToIP (Telephone over Internet Protocol)

Telephone over Internet Protocol, ToIP is a voice communication service which uses the telecommunications protocol created for the internet (IP). Speech is digitized and transmitted over the internet network like any other data.
Transporting voice over IP is a relatively complex process. The first step, encoding, digitizes the acoustic signal. Then this data is divided into frames that can circulate on an IT network. Various protocols can be used to carry media streams to their destination(s). RTCP is used to control transmission of RTP packets.
